MULTIPLY grows five industrial algae species indoors in Northern Europe and outdoors in Southern Europe, using digital twins, monitoring, and contamination control to cut costs and resources. Through enhanced biorefinery processes—extracting oils, starch, pigments, and more—we unlock value using a cascading approach. Finally, these ingredients are turned into 10 innovative products across food, feed, cosmetics, biomaterials, and lubricants.

MULTIPLY applies safe-and-sustainable-by-design principles to every step. Using automated LCA and digital tools, we measure and improve performance, while reducing waste and upcycling nutrients. By boosting efficiency and social acceptance, algae-based products prove they can outperform fossil and bio-based alternatives in the move toward a carbon-neutral blue economy.

MULTIPLY combines market analysis, TEA (techno-economic assessment), and business plans to identify the best opportunities. By mapping regulations, removing barriers, and validating products with industry partners, we ensure algae-based ingredients can realistically replace today’s feedstocks at competitive scale.

Beyond science, MULTIPLY connects with society. Through dissemination campaigns, co-creation workshops, exploitation strategies, and stakeholder engagement, the project builds trust and knowledge. This outreach ensures public acceptance and accelerates the adoption of algae innovations across Europe.
