ALLIANCE is a Horizon Europe (CBE JU) project dedicated to moving the microalgae industry from niche products to an affordable everyday essentials supplier for Europe’s bioeconomy. The project is optimising four industrial microalgae strains, automating production across three trophic modes, and developing multi-product biorefineries that reuse nutrients and water from industrial side streams. By lowering production costs through these measures, ALLIANCE is increasing production efficiency while cutting resource use and waste, driving market viability and sustainable scaling.

CleanAlgae2Value is a Horizon Europe (CBE JU) project dedicated to unlocking the potential of microalgae as a scalable, sustainable resource for Europe’s bioeconomy. The project is developing the Micro-Algae Biorefinery Upgrade Module (MABUM), a fractionation and cascading technology that produces food-grade, carbon-negative ingredients such as protein isolates, oils, and starch. By integrating Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Techno-Economic Analysis (TEA), and Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) frameworks, CleanAlgae2Value is building the evidence base for the technology’s environmental, economic, and safety credentials, driving market viability and sustainable scaling.

Other collaboration

PROMOFER is an EU co-funded project focused on valorising lignocellulosic biomass and food industry waste through improved fermentation and downstream purification processes. It aims to boost the efficiency of producing two widely used biobased compounds: PHBV, a biodegradable polymer, and 2,3-butanediol (BDO), used to create biobased polyurethanes. The project also targets improved environmental performance through recycling and reuse strategies across the value chain. Coordinated by AIMPLAS, PROMOFER runs from June 2024 to May 2028, with a consortium of 13 partners from 7 European countries.
